Jewelry Revival by Allison Mass
Allison Mass was born in Livingston New Jersey, studied English in Skidmore College and has spent most of her adult life in Montclair New Jersey. She cannot remember a time when she was not fascinated and enamored with jewelry... One of her earliest memories was being kicked out of services in temple while arguing with her sister over who got to play with Nanas rings.
Since I can remember, I have been making my own jewelry. From being a little girl, and making my own beads with Fimo till dabbling in designing fine jewelry over the last few years during my career as an Estate Jewelry Dealer. Jewelry is wearable art. I have always said, that you should wear your fine jewelry every day, not just on special occasions, because you never know what life is going to bring you. Life is short and every day should be celebrated. And jewelry, should be a celebration of life.
My main influence, is that of my mother. She had the most wonderful jewelry during the 70s and I can remember being fascinated with it, as a child. Long Tigers eye strands of beads, gold chains and bangles galore... I loved all of it. She had a lot of costume jewelry from the Victorian revival period and I have great memories of playing dress-up with those rhinestones broaches with my sisters. As an Estate Jewelry Dealer, I learned how much jewelry was connected with history, and how important it became to families. My favorite periods in Jewelry History are Art Deco and Victorian. I am especially fond of Victorian Mourning jewelry, where the seed pearls used in the designs were used to represent queen Victoria's tears. And so women use jewelry even in death rituals, as in life. Each piece I design is adorned with a crown, as every woman, should have one.
All of my jewelry is made with a combination of semi precious stones and Czechoslovakian glass. Many of my pieces also use vintage elements....I use a lot of chain from the 70s, and it is not unusual to find an art deco dress clip featured on one of my pieces. Each piece is lovingly handmade. Enjoy.
